August 2, 20127/27/2012 – Caught in a Storm
July 31, 2012Okay, I just found this really amusing. Today, after a lovely morning just relaxing and reading, I decided to stretch my legs out some and go get some groceries. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the store (or a few minutes on a marshrutka), and when I left my dorm, the sun was shining in a partly cloudy sky. I got to the store, did my thing, made my way back out. Lightening ripped open the sky and it started to pour.
I stared out at the rain, very aware of the frozen dumplings I had picked up for dinner that needed to be cooked sooner rather than later (I don’t have a freezer, so when I buy frozen foods it’s now or never). People were huddled under the overhangs, hoping to wait it out or waiting for rescue. I sighed, hiked my bag more securely on my shoulder, and continued on my way.
When I got back to the dorm, I was soaking wet. Rivers ran down my face and my shoes squeaked beneath me. I looked at the dorm lady as I walked by and gave her a helpless shrug. She just shook her head and smiled indulgently.
What she must think of me.
